The White Iron Chain of Lakes are now ice free.  White Iron and Farm Lakes were mostly ice free by May 8th, but it wasn’t until the afternoon of May 9th that all the ice was gone.  This year, the ice went out a day earlier than last year.  The latest ice out date was May 14th in 2012.  Both lakes were covered in ice for 166 days, one more day than last year.  The average number of days of ice on White Iron is 162.

Enjoy the open water and remember to always wear your personal floatation device (life jacket) because the water is very cold.
